Electric Cars: Check List for Action

Lung Health News, Spring / Summer 2000

If you want to be a driving force and encourage the development and sale of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) in California, here are a few ways you can help automakers stay in gear.

Log on to the American Lung Association of California's web site at www.californialung.org where you can find out more about air quality issues and sign on to the Clean Car Pledge. The pledge asks you to commit to making your next vehicle a zero-emission vehicle and is a way to let automakers know consumers want cars that don't pollute the air.

Join the American Lung Association's statewide Advocacy Network and contact policymakers about air quality issues. To join, call your local American Lung Association at 1-800-LUNG-USA.

Write to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) with your comments about zero-emissions vehicles. CARB sets air quality policies, including the ZEV mandate. Letters supporting ZEVs will be compiled for a biennial review of the mandate.

Send correspondence to: Dr. Alan Lloyd, chair, California Air Resources Board, P.O. Box 2815, Sacramento, CA 95812; fax (916) 445-5025; or e-mail your message to helpline [at] arb [dot] ca [dot] gov.

Also, letters of support may be sent to Governor Gray Davis, Office of the Governor, State Capitol, Sacramento, CA 95814.

Correspondence to automakers urging them to manufacture and aggressively market electric cars and other zero-emission vehicles can be sent to the following addresses:

  • Jacques Nasser, President and CEO, Ford Motor Co., 15050 Commerce Drive North, Dearborn, MI 48120
