Secure Funding for Comprehensive Asthma Program

Lung Health News, Spring Summer 2001

Asthma in California is on the rise, jumping 75 percent in the Golden State between 1984 and 1998. The American Lung Association of California will continue to work to reduce the burden of asthma on children and adults in California by securing funding for a statewide comprehensive program within the California Department of Health Services to address asthma.

An asthma program was signed into law last year, but the Governor didn’t allocate any funding for it. The asthma program would include community intervention in high-risk areas, and education and training to health care providers about the diagnosis and treatment of asthma.

The American Lung Association of California is working on a budget proposal to secure funds for the program in the current legislative session.
