Association Urges Governor to Fund Tuberculosis Control

Lung Health News, Spring / Summer 2002

Tuberculosis (TB) continues to be a serious threat to public health. Despite progress, California still has the highest number of TB cases and the fourth highest rate of TB in the country.

The American Lung Association of California has joined with the California Tuberculosis Controllers Association and the Health Officers Association of California to urge Governor Gray Davis to reinstate funding that was cut from the state ’s TB Control Branch. The association is supporting Senate Bill 843 (Perata, D-Oakland), which would establish the Omnibus Tuberculosis Control and Prevention Act and require the Department of Health Services to develop a plan for increasing funding for local health departments and strengthening their disease control infrastructure.
