Employees Win Basic Healthcare

Lung Health News, Fall 2003 / Winter 2004

Beginning in 2006, employees at medium and large companies must be provided with basic health coverage or their employers are required to pay into a state fund that will subsidize coverage for the uninsured. Senate Bill 2 (Burton, D-San Francisco) exempts businesses with fewer than 50 employees and requires employees to pay 20 percent of the health coverage premium. The bill will provide health coverage to about 1.3 million of the state's 7 million uninsured.
