The American Lung Association of California takes an integrated
approach to preventing lung disease and promoting lung health through
advocacy, education and research. We are the only organization in
California that helps people and communities improve lung health while
working to create public policies that attack the causes of lung
disease.
As one of the leading environmental health advocates, we fight for
commonsense policies to reduce both indoor and outdoor air pollution,
address urgent public health issues like the asthma epidemic and spread
of tuberculosis, and against the predatory tactics of Big Tobacco. As
experts in lung health, we offer education and support services to help
people with lung disease live quality lives and prevent others from
ever getting it. Our peer-reviewed research program funds studies that
could lead to better treatments and possibly even cures for lung
disease.
The American Lung Association of California has regional offices
throughout the state, which provide programs and services and promote
local lung health issues, and is an affiliate of the American Lung
Association - the nation's oldest voluntary health agency.
The California Thoracic Society, our medical section, works to
advance the science and practice of pulmonary and critical care
medicine. Its membership includes pulmonary physicians, critical care
specialists, allergists, chest surgeons, respiratory therapists and
specially trained nurses. Their collective medical and scientific
expertise helps to guide our efforts and ensure our campaigns and
advocacy activities are based on sound scientific evidence.
